Had two additional herb garden areas last year. One had basil, thyme, sage, and some miscellaneous stuff that never grew. This is what it looked like on arrival. Yikes! Decided that it really was too shady for most herbs, but certainly don't want to be looking at this mess all summer. This is all in the side yard and we sit out there while barbecuing in the summer, so needed to do something about this view.
Cleaned it out - there is still a little sage there in back left side, but it looks puny compared to what's in other garden. I put some shade flower seeds in here. We'll see if anything grows at all. I'll deal more with this one when I get back in a few weeks. Hopefully, got enough of the weed roots out that it won't look like it did when I arrived in May.
The other little garden (surrounded by bricks) was my first starter herb garden. First year had basil, oregano and parsley. Parsley came up again last year but two years is usually all you get with them. Oregano on the other hand will take over the world. This garden only needed a little pruning - not so many weeds in this one. Anyone need some oregano? I seem to be overflowing with it in two gardens! But love the smell.
Glad to hear you're taking care of nature up there ... won't take long for those gardens to be producing! Sounds like a good trip to get things started for the summer.
